Pair of Pits OR Pair of Fish?

Hello doggy world!!! Hope everyone is doing great!! Sorry we've been away so much lately. Computer failure has been slowing us down but Motley said we have to post!!! He also wanted me to let all his pit bull friends know he now has a twitter account and would love to hear from everyone there as well as this blog. You will be able to find Motley at @MotleysJourney where we will update a little bit more often about day to day pit bull activities.

But moving on to more interesting pit bull news, Motley had a hot date with Moca-Chino at the beach today!!! It was actually the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia Beach but a hot pit bull date none the less. Ha

They were so excited to see each other since it had been a week or two of separation because of Moca getting fixed. They were real anxious to rekindle there bond!! HaHa

After a nice little stroll through the woods side by side we finally made it to the beach where they could unleash all that pent up pit bull energy. If you're a pit bull owner you know exactly what I'm talking about and you have to enjoy getting it out of them!

As usual, Motley was real hesitant about getting in the water at first but once Moca was in he had no choice but to follow. What fun is it sitting on the beach when your girlfriend is out having a blast in the water??

After a ton of pit bull swimming and more hiking, we finally made it back to the car to head back home. I can honestly tell you, our pit bulls had no interest in leaving. They moaned and groaned the entire car ride back. Poor Pups!!!

Athough they had a blast, like I said before its always nice to come home with a tired pit bull. We got back to the house and all Motley and Moca wanted to do was snuggle up and sleep. What a GREAT pit bull fun day!!

We'd love to hear about yalls great pit bull and doggy adventures!! Comment us and let us know what fun yall are having now that the weather is warming up. Can't wait to hear your interesting stories!!

Dog Days-How Training Benefits Both Pet Owners And Pets

Welcome! Whether you are a new pet owner or you have had a pet in your home for some time, you know how delightful, and frustrating, owning a pet can be.

The joy of bringing a new puppy or dog into your household can be insurmountable. After all, there is no relationship quite like the one that is developed between you and your dog.

A dog can provide unconditional love, hours of entertainment, and genuine friendship. Or, a dog can provide unconditional messes, hours of destruction, and a genuine nuisance!

How do you ensure that your dog behaves in the manner of the first scenario described above? If you are thinking that the answer is "breed" you are partially correct. Indeed, breed does play a role in a dog's behavior. But an even greater factor in the dog's behavior is based on the training he receives. Good dog training resources can go a long way toward helping.
The Benefits of Training

If you are like most people, you are extremely busy. Some days, there just doesn't seem like enough hours to take care of yourself, let alone a dog! But, the time that you spend training your dog will reward you and your relationship for many, many years to come.

There are five main benefits of training:
  1. It builds a relationship.
  2. It corrects behavioral problems.
  3. It stimulates intellect.
  4. It encourages inclusion.
  5. It saves time.
Let's explore each benefit in further detail.
  1. Training Builds a Relationship.

There is no better way to create a bond with your dog than through the process of training. You may think that training begins at the time you decide to try new tricks, but it actually begins at the very moment you acquire your dog.

Your dog is constantly watching you and learning from your actions. He learns from the way you react to his actions. He looks to you for guidance, for food, for warmth, for comfort, and for playtime.
  2. Training Corrects Behavioral Problems.

Barking at anyone who passes by the front window, chewing up your favorite pillows, digging through your freshly planted garden, bolting out of an open door...do any of these actions look familiar to you?

When you have developed a trusting bond with your dog, you can teach him how to correct these behavioral problems. He will learn by your reactions whether or not his actions are acceptable to you. No doubt, he will test his limits!
  3. Training Stimulates Intellect.

Yes, it is true that dogs are very curious creatures. With exposure to so many unusual smells, sights, and sounds, dogs can't help but want to explore. It's in their nature!

Most dogs have the capacity to be very intelligent. But, they need to be stimulated first, and then they will be motivated to learn. Training is a huge benefit for stimulating your dog's intellect.
  4. Training Encourages Inclusion.

The sense of "inclusion" is very important to a dog's security. From the earliest days of being a part of a litter, your dog feels comfortable being a part of the pack. That includes the pack of your household.

You may be the primary dog trainer, but everyone in your family or household should take the time to train your dog. When he receives this undivided attention from everyone, he feels like part of the pack.
  5. Training Saves Time.

Another huge benefit of training your dog is that it saves you time. Taking the time to train your dog now, will actually save you time in the long run. For example, if you take the time to train your dog to behave properly inside the house, you will actually be saving time cleaning up mischievous messes that he could create in the future-if he didn't have the training.

Pit Bull Exercise

HEY GUY'S!!!! Hope everyone is doing quite nice now that the weather is finally starting to warm up!! Luckily for my pit bull Motley, I had the day off so we got the opportunity to bask out in the sun and play some games. Can you tell Motley was ready to play? Ha

Once we got outside, Motley went straight for the tennis ball. I guess that mean't fetch was his game of choice for the time being. It was fine with me though, I got to sit around while he emptied his pit bull gas take.

After awhile though, Motley lost most of his interest in the tennis ball. He's never really been a real good fetcher anyway(just saying).

I would consider Motley more of a pitbull soccer dog if you ask me. Rather than fetch or use his mouth to pick up th ball hed rather kick it. Check out this quick little video!!

After about and hour and a half Motley was finally ready to head back in and quinch his thirst and hunger. How could you ever be mad at a face like that? What a worn out pup!

Just like every human I know, what do you think he did after he had his lunch and a hardy play date? Yep, you are correct!!! IT'S NAP TIME!!! He laid down and it wasn't too much longer before he was on the couch snoring. Motley even managed to sneak his way into a blacket.

I hope all of our pit bull, dog, cat, and other animal friends have all been able to enjoy the beautiful weather!!! We'd love to hear how everyones been doing since we havent been able to update recently so drop us a few comments. Motley always enjoys meeting new friends!!

Link To Motley's Journey

Hey guys!!! How has everyone been doing? All is well here with me and my pit bull Motley.

Motley and I have been thinking a lot lately on how we can reach more and more people about the postive characterisitics Pit Bulls bring to the table. Hopefully this blog itself has been able to present a great platform on that subjuect but the journey to reach more people is never ending.

This is where I need all you Pit Bull lovers, dog lovers, and animal lovers help. If you support the messege Motley and I are trying to portray please, PLEASE link to us at Motley's Journey on your site. I have gone on and actually made a link that is rather small that you can copy and paste to your site if you'd like.

Motley and I just thought it would be a great way to suppress the negative press pit bulls always recieve and replace it with another good outlet that will give pit bulls a good name. The more people we can reach with your help and support the better we can make this world for out pitbull pups.

A Nice quote I once read stated:
Dogs are Man's BESTFRIEND, why should we treat pit bulls any different?

Motley and I wish all of you a great weekend and please support this great cause!!

Pitbull Check-up

So today unfortunately was a bad day for my pit bull Motley. It was time for his shots!! To get the tensions down a bit, we got Moca and Andy to join us because it was also time for Moca to receive her shots. Because of this Motley hasn't really been talking to me today, I can understand though. It was a rough day. Here's a picture of Motley on the way to vet.

In other news , Motley is in tip top shape, extremely healthy, and got many compliments from the vet and the other animal lovers that were there. He loved the attention!!!

Pit Bull's Lead The Way

Hey everyone!! I hope everyone and their pups are doing great!! Motley has been rushing me to post pics of one of our adventures so I told him today was the day.

It had been a good while since my pit bull and I had gotten the chance to take a nice hike because of the weather, so we had found a warm day and got our friends Moca and Andy to join us at First Landing State Park. To get your imagination going, the 6 mile hike travels through nice forested areas and along side the Chesapeake Bay at times. It's a great place to take the dogs to walk or run and even toss the ball in the water to get a refreshing swim. It is also a great place for the dogs to interact with other dogs and people that also travel along the trails. Just in case your in the area and would like to check it out!

Motley and Moca led the way on the start of our journey as always. Haha They always think they are in charge and know their way around anything. I guess that's a pit bull for ya. Ha

For awhile Andy and I just tossed sticks for them to fetch and bring back to us as we continued our way through the forest. It definitely passed the time a bit.

Moca and Motley enjoyed it a lot too, in between chasing squirrels and other little animals. Here's a picture of my pit bull Motley rushing back to the trail after chasing a squirrel up into the trees. I guess he wasn't quick enough.

Once you travel about 3 or 4 miles into the trail you start hearing the sounds of water rushing ashore from the Chesapeake Bay. We hopped of the trail for a little bit and had the dogs walk across a fallen tree like a bridge, then we followed and discovered a shortcut to the water. It was like we had our own personal little beach. Us and the pit bulls. It was a nice little discovery so the dogs could play in the water without disturbing anyone. This is also when Motley ASTONISHED me!

Little background again, Motley has always hated the water. He has had some bad experiences with me trying to get him to swim and him thoroughly hating it. This time was different though. We threw a stick in for Moca to get because she loves the water a low and behold, Motley followed her right in. He even got the stick before her a couple times which NEVER happens. I was a proud Dad!! It was one of those "Awe, My little boy is growing up" kind of moments.

Andy and Moca and Motley and I had an awesome time and were totally pooped when we got home from the hike. Both Motley and Moca had actually fallen asleep on the car ride home because they were so tired. It was a fun 2 to 3 hour little hike if anyone is in the Virginia Beach, Virginia area and wants to check it out. I would suggest it to anyone and Motley gives is 4 PAWS UP!!!

Hope yall enjoy the pictures!!! Thanks for checking out Motley's blog and we hope to hear and see from you all again!! Motley loves meeting new friends so follow us and stayed tuned for more adventures!!

My Pit Bull's a G

Hey guys!! I hope everyone is doing great now that we have one month of 2011 down and moved passed us! Motley has been mad at me because my computer has been messed up so he hasn't really had a voice lately. Hopefully the computer situation if fixed shortly and we will be back on a regular basis about our journeys because there have been a few to start off the new year!! I will post pics of some of our hikes and Motleys first time swimming!!(willingly that is) He's always hated the water so that was a huge pit bull achievement for him. Those pictures will come in the future but for now, here is a few pics of my pit bull and me messing around for the camera to pass the time.

Doesn't he look so enthusiastic for the camera??  HaHa
Hope yall enjoyed the pics and please leave comments!! What should Motley get dressed up like next?? HaHa

Why A Pitbull??

When you decided that you were capable enough and responsible enough to own a dog, how did you come to the conclusion that a pitbull was the dog for you?

I can honestly say, and I hope Motley doesn't hear or get mad at me, but a Pitbull wasn't the dog I truley wanted when I first decided to get a dog companion. Originally I had my eyes set on an all white English Bulldog. That was my dream dog growing up because they looked like couch potatos and I always wanted a dog that would follow me around a flop down when I did. Great reason huh? Haha That dream lasted 2 mintues until I saw the price tag on English Bulldogs. Other dogs I considered were Boxers and Boston Terriers because I wanted a fit dog, and I just loved the smushed in faces they all had. Those were the dogs I had really looked into until my best friend came home with his puppy.

Her name was Moca-chino, Moca for short, a little brindle 6 week old female Pitbull.

After seeing her I fell in love. We played, I got to help in training her, and just became really enlightened on the pitbull breed. Although a young pup, she acted nothing like what you hear about in the papers and on the news about how vicious they are. It was a nice pup that liked to cuddle and play fetch whenever she could get the chance. After that I knew that a Pitbull was the dog for me because of how active I am, and how easily trainable Pitbulls really are.

Once I decided a Pitbull was the dog for me, the search was on for the perfect companion. I went to multiple shelters looking for them because I knew many Pitbulls get sent to shelters unfortunately, and it would be better for the dog. After thinking about it though, and I'm sad to say  it, I did end up going to a breeder. I made that decision because of how much fun it was training and helping teach Moca, and how much I really wanted to go through all of that with my own.

Eventually, this black and white little Pitbull, was what came home with me.

Actually, my best friend and Moca took the journey with me to pick him up.
Now they are like this!! HA

Best freinds HAHA.
I can honestly say a Pitbull was the dog for me and I enjoy every minute Motleys around.
